Disability Pride Month 2025

A Disability Pride Parade in New York City, date unknown, from disabilitypridenyc.org

July is Disability Pride Month. It coincides with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) being signed into law on July 26, 1990, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities.

This month is a time to celebrate the contributions of disabled people, raise awareness about disability issues, and honor the diverse identities of people with disabilities.

We invite everyone to join us for a series of Disability Pride Month events throughout July.

The Office of Disability Access and Inclusion and the UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care are excited to present the Patient No More: People with Disabilities Securing Civil Rights exhibition.

About the Exhibition: Discover this remarkable, overlooked moment in U.S. history when people with disabilities demanded their rights. Known as the “Section 504 Sit-In,” the protest profoundly changed the lives of people with and without disabilities, and paved the way for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The “Patient No More” exhibition is an opportunity for all UCSF students, staff, and faculty to learn about this pivotal moment that led to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signed 35 years ago on July 26, 1990. Above all, this exhibition reminds all of us that disabilities are a source of creativity and innovation, not pity or tragedy.
